the active ingredient is diclofenac diethylamine. 100 g of the drug contain 1.16 g of diclofenac diethylamine, which corresponds to 1 g of diclofenac sodium; auxiliary ingredients: diethylamine, acrylic acid polymer, cetomacrogol 1000, caprylic / caprylic fatty alcohol ester, isopropyl alcohol, rare paraffin, aromatic substance, propylene glycol, water. The basis of emulsifier is a fat emulsion in an aqueous gel with the addition of isopropanol and propylene glycol.

Pharmacological properties
Voltaren contains diclofenac sodium, a substance of a nonsteroidal structure that has a pronounced anti-inflammatory, analgesic and antipyretic effect. The main mechanism of action of diclofenac, established under experimental conditions, is inhibition of the biosynthesis of prostaglandins. Prostaglandins play an important role in the genesis of inflammation, pain and fever. In rheumatic diseases, the anti-inflammatory and analgesic properties of Voltaren provide a clinical effect that is characterized by a significant reduction in the severity of such symptoms and complaints, such as pain at rest and during movement, morning stiffness, swelling of the joints, and also improvement of function. In vitro, diclofenac sodium in concentrations equivalent to those achieved in the treatment of patients do not inhibit the biosynthesis of proteoglycans of the cartilaginous tissue. With posttraumatic and postoperative inflammatory phenomena, Voltaren quickly pains (both spontaneous and those that occur during movement), reduces inflammatory edema and swelling after an operating wound. Clinical studies have made it possible to demonstrate a significant analgesic effect of the drug with an abstinent and strongly pronounced pain syndrome of non-rheumatic genesis. Clinical studies have also made it possible to establish that Voltaren is able to eliminate pain and reduce the severity of blood loss in primary dysmenorrhea. Voltaren, in addition, has a beneficial effect on the manifestations of migraine attacks.
Indications for use
• Post-traumatic inflammation of the tendons, ligaments, muscles and joints, for example, due to stretching, overvoltage and shock; • rheumatic diseases of soft tissues, such as tendovaginitis (inflammation of the tendon sheath), bursitis (inflammation of the synovial bag), shoulder-brush syndrome and periarthropathy; • local manifestations of degenerative diseases of bones and joints (for example, osteoarthritis of peripheral joints and osteochondrosis), in particular, pain syndrome.
Dosing and Administration
The drug is applied to the skin 3-4 times a day and lightly rubbed. The required amount of the drug depends on the size of the pain zone. For example, 2-4 g of Voltaren Emulgel (comparable in volume to the size of a cherry or walnut) is enough to apply to a plot of 400-800 cm2. After applying the product, the hands should be washed. The duration of treatment depends on the readings and the effect achieved. The indication for continuing treatment is recommended to be reviewed after 2 weeks.
Side effects
Local reactions: sometimes - allergic and non-allergic contact dermatitis (itching, redness, swelling of the skin area, the appearance of papules, vesicles, blisters, sluschyvanie). Systemic reactions: in some cases - generalized skin rash; allergic reactions (eg, bronchospasm, angioedema); photosensitization. The patient should bear in mind that in case of occurrence of an undesirable phenomenon, which is not mentioned in the leaflet, he / she should be informed about this phenomenon to the doctor or pharmacist.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity to diclofenac, propylene glycol, isopropyl alcohol or other ingredients of the drug. Voltaren Emulgel is also contraindicated in patients who, after taking acetylsalicylic acid or other non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs, had attacks of bronchial asthma, hives, or acute rhinitis.
Interaction with other drugs

Overdose
An overdose of Voltaren Emulgel is unlikely, since the resorption of diclofenac into the systemic blood stream with local application is negligible.
Application features
Voltaren Emulgel should be applied only to normal, undamaged skin, avoiding damage to areas of damage and open wounds. Do not let the drug on the mucous membrane of the eyes and other mucous membranes. The likelihood of systemic side effects in topical application of diclofenac, in comparison with its intake, is small, but it increases when Voltaren Emulgel is applied to relatively large skin surfaces for a long time. The drug should not be taken orally. Since the experience of Voltaren Emulgel with pregnant women is not available, it is not recommended for use in this category of patients. The active substance of the drug is not found in the breast milk of nursing mothers, but there is no experience of using Voltaren Emulgel during lactation. The experience of Voltaren Emulgel in children is not.
